While many adults are discouraged from starting treatment when they hear the word “braces.” These adults are surprised to learn that there are so many comfortable and stylish options available for them. During your complimentary consultation, you will receive an x-ray, photos of your teeth, an exam by Dr. Bo or Dr. Baker, a treatment plan, and a financial quote!
We offer three types of treatment:
Damon Metal Braces
Damon metal braces are similar to traditional metal braces that utilize brackets and wires to move your teeth into the proper position gradually. The main difference with the Damon System is that the braces are self-ligating, meaning that they do not use the elastics or colored ties. Instead, the Damon System uses a bracket that opens and closes like a door to hold a shape-memory wire into place.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign trays are our most discreet option and are great for adults that do not want their orthodontic treatment to be noticeable. Invisalign uses multiple sets of aligners or trays that are switched out throughout your treatment to straighten teeth gradually. The clear aligners are comfortable, nearly invisible. They can be taken in and out for eating, drinking, and photos.
What Are The Benefits of Adult Braces?
While many adults pursue orthodontic treatment to improve the look of their smile, many also consider getting braces to fix their bite. Many issues can result when teeth don’t fit together correctly, including wear and tear on teeth, jaw pain, pressure, tooth decay, or gum disease.
Straight teeth are also easier to keep clean with flossing and brushing. Not only can orthodontics make you more confident, but it can also improve the health of your smile!
What Else Should I Know About Adult Braces?
While adolescence is the ideal time to receive orthodontic treatment, many adults can come away with excellent results from their treatment. If you are considering orthodontic treatment as an adult, keep these things in mind:
- Some structural changes cannot be accomplished without surgery because adult bones have stopped growing
- Treatment time can be a little longer compared to a teenager, but on average, treatment lasts around 1.5-2 years
- It is a good idea to see a periodontist and general dentist to ensure that your oral health is top-notch and that treatment is not complicated by bone loss from gum disease
